Jazz Clinics set for Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1 

At the Jazz at Newport Festival, jazz students and community musicians will have two unparalleled opportunities to participate directly with jazz artists in jazz workshops at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Jeff Hamilton will conduct a jazz clinic at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at Newport High School, 322 NE Eads Street in Newport. Richmond, Indiana-born Hamilton grew up with jazz, and has received rave reviews for his dynamic drumming. Among many other achievements, he appeared in Oscar Peterson’s documentary, “Life in the Key of Oscar.” He is the co-leader of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.

Tamir Hendelman conducts a jazz clinic at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1 on the Newport Performing Arts Center stage, 777 W. Olive Street in Newport. Born in Tel Aviv, the renowned pianist has performed with many greats since he arrived in the United States. In addition to his own trio, Jeff Hamilton’s trio and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, he played on a recent Barbara Streisand recording.
